Bio: I love music, depth, and laughter. There is nothing more valuable to me than a song that gives you goose bumps because it reveals something you didn't know was inside you. Originally from England, I was raised listening to opera, cut my teeth on gospel, learned about life on rock and roll, found roots in the Charlotte Folk Society, and live my life to Country music. I love it all. I am a multi-instrumentalist. My first CD is hammered dulcimer Celtic mix. I do lots of weddings, festivals, and teach workshops on music theory and technique. I performed for years as a vocalist and instrumentalist with the group "Shepherds Pie”. I’m an internationally published author. I started writing my own songs at 13. Currently, I’m making trips to Nashville studying with the best songwriters I can find. What an adventure! I’m a nuclear chemist by day, run a small equestrian center, and work on my home recording studio at night. I have a supportive husband, Jason, and two beautiful girls, Kyra and Andrea. I am very appreciative of the opportunities that NSAI creates to further the craft of songwriting. And I’m very proud to be able to serve our Charlotte group. Let me know if there is anything I can do to support you on your musical journey!

Coordinator: Angelo Melendez
Bio: Instruments: Bass, Acoustic/Electric Guitar
Music has been an integral part of my life since a very early age. Piano lessons as a child, self taught on guitar and bass, playing in bands since high school and performing club dates since age 19. In the early 80’s a music scholarship to junior college in Ft. Myers, FL led to an AA in Music Performance. The college experience turned my life and music around, and afforded me the opportunity to accompany jazz greats Marian McPartland, Bill Watrous, Buddy DeFranco, and Clark Terry on bass at semester ending concerts. After college I spent a couple of years playing in local and road club bands until I was accepted into the Navy Music Program. While stationed in Newport, RI and Charleston, SC, I was fortunate to learn from and perform with some of the best musicians I’ve ever met, and continued working as an on call musician doing club dates, weddings, and studio work between and around my schedule. Upon moving to Charlotte, NC, I decided my musical involvements centered on serving local church worship teams and ministries. Then, in the fall of 2002 I got an opportunity to explore and experiment with songwriting and joined NSAI soon thereafter. I immediately became a steady participant in meetings, workshops, and other local chapter events. I consider myself to be an Indie artist whose songs and music transcend genres, so I can’t say I write, or really even try to write, in a particular genre. I make every effort to write or play music every day, and perform at coffee houses and venues in and around Charlotte, NC a few times a month.
