Symposium Leads To Contract
Song Problems Solved, Door Swings Open
By Alice Lankford
I attended this year's Spring Symposium, the first time I've made it in a couple of years, and during the critique session with Banner Music, Camilla took a couple of my songs with her. We have now signed a single-song contract. Thank you guys! I have been to song camps, workshops in different regions, symposiums, and on a songwriters cruise, and though a couple of publishers have taken material before, this is the first "real" contract and I feel like I've found a home. I am so comfortable with Camilla and I know that she believes in my music.
For me this step was accomplished not just by going to the symposium, which was great, but by first going to the NSAI Tahoe Chapter workshop that Larry Singleton put on last April. Some of the workshops at that retreat opened my eyes to a problem I could see with my music when I looked at it with a critical, unbiased eye. So I re-wrote some songs, and threw away others and worked harder. I want to get the message out there. Do it; do it all. You never know who you will meet that will have the next door to open for you. And write. Let the song say it for you.
I almost didn't come to Symposium, but I am so thankful that I did. What you guys do is phenomenal. Thank you again for the great job you guys do! |
