"Nation's Choice" for GAC Star competition!
By John Maison
During a work seminar, a good looking girl caught my eye. I was sitting across the room from her and she never even looked over. On the way out she happened to be walking in front of me. I thought perhaps I would spark up a conversation in the parking lot if her car was near mine. But to my
disappointment, she parked on the right side of the parking lot and I was over on the left. Jokingly, I said to my co-worker "and just like that she walked right out of my life". And we both had a good laugh. And it hit me. I said. "I got to write a song about that!"
So I wrote this song: "She Walked Right Out My Life". I was happy with the format and lyrical content, but I always like to get my songs evaluated before I record them. So I sent this song in for evaluation via the NSAI song evaluation. I got back some great feedback, tweaked a few things, and hit the studio. Working with some of the best studio musicians; Bruce Shockley and Kevin Henneman, I finished the song in just a few days and Mike Oswald mastered the final mix. Weeks later, in the middle
of shooting the music video for the song, I received an email from the NSAI with info on "THE NEXT GAC STAR". I immediately called the director of the video Kristofer Petruska and said "we have to put a rush on this!" We finished the video and submitted it to Music-Nation partnered with GAC and crossed out fingers.
The response from the public was almost immediate! Out of every submission to the contest, mine seemed to be the favorite. I received tons of messages and compliments on my craft. As the voting deadline came closer, I shot up the charts into the #1 spot! I couldn't believe it! When the polls closed, I was the "Nation's Choice" for "THE NEXT GAC STAR". Now I'm #1 of 16 semi-finalists who will compete for a recording contract with Original Signal/Epic. I couldn't ask for anything more.
