9th Annual NSAI/CMT Song Contest Winners Announced

Industry judges chose David Stewart of Brooklyn, New York as the Grand Prize Winner with “Damn, I Miss You”, co-wriiten with Mary Beth Stone, prior to CMT online voters selecting “I Found Everything,” co-written by Ben and Kate Thompson of Marietta, GA, as the CMT Listener’s Choice. Earning the top spot from more than 2,000 submissions, Stewart and Mary Beth Stone of New York, will perform their winning song at one of the hottest Tin Pan South shows – Dave Berg, Kelley Lovelace & Rivers Rutherford – at The Rutledge (410 4th Ave. South, Nashville) on Saturday, April 4th at 9:30 p.m.

NSAI and CMT are also awarding a single-song publishing contract by a major publisher, separate mentoring sessions with Kenny Alphin (Big Kenny) and Regie Hamm (“The Time Of My Life” – David Cook), a three-day trip to Nashville, tickets to the 2010 CMT Music Awards, a Gibson guitar and much more.

For the past nine years, NSAI and CMT have created a nation-wide platform for songwriters to submit their best tunes with one Grand Prize Winner and one CMT Listener’s Choice Winner. This year submissions were taken from August 1 through November 30, 2008. Nashville pro writers, publishers and industry professionals narrowed down the finalists over three rounds of judging and selected the Grand Prize Winner, 4 Finalists, 10 Runners-Up and 40 Honorable Mentions before the Top 15 (excluding the Grand Prize Winner) were posted on NSAI.CMT.com. Voting online ran from February 1 through March 6, 2009 – with over 94,000 votes – before Ben and Kate Thompson were named the CMT Listener’s Choice. Their combined talents secured them a plethora of prizes, including a single-song publishing contract by a major publisher for their winning song, a professional demo at Parlor Studios on Music Row, tickets to the 2010 CMT Music Awards, a private tour of CMT studios and more.
