HOW IT WORKS

Each Online Pitch Session has a limited number of spots available, and spots fill up very quickly.  TIP: Be sure you are logged in to your NSAI account prior to the time registration opens!

STEP 1 - Confirm the date and time when the pitch session registration opens up so you can be prepared, make sure you have credits, and test your login to make sure it works properly.

STEP 2 - When registration opens, you will submit ONE song (.mp3 & lyrics). Each online session typically fills up within a few minutes so don't delay! If there is more than one Online Pitch opening at the same time, you can only register for one.

STEP 3 - You will receive the Online Pitch video results within 2-3 weeks, NSAI will send out the listening session with the industry guest where they have listened through the first verse and chorus of each song. They will either "pass" or "take a copy" of your song for a second listen. You will receive a video recording of the full listening session, there is no attendance or live stream for the session.

STEP 4 - If the guest opted to "take a copy" of your song* (congrats!), we will provide them with the MP3 and lyric sheet**. You will receive additional instructions if you need to provide anything else.

*The guest in no way owns your material through this service.

**We do not guarantee the guest will contact you, and we are unable to give you their contact info.

  • What is Online Pitch?

Online Pitch is a service provided by NSAI to give members the exciting opportunity to present an original song directly to a Music Industry Professional (usually a Music Publisher/someone on the Creative Team of a  reputable Publishing Company). These events are virtual, so members from anywhere in the world can participate!

  • Who does NSAI pitch the submitted songs to?

NSAI will always offer pitch opportunities to reputable and established Music Publishers/Publishing Companies. Before confirming any guest, we do our research and build strong connections and relationships with these professionals in the industry.

  • How many Online Pitch credits do I get with my membership?

Every member begins their membership year with two (2) Online Pitch credits. If you run out of these credits and would like to continue to participate in Online Pitch sessions, you have the option to purchase additional credits.

  • What do I need in order to participate in an Online Pitch Session?

To participate in an Online Pitch Session, you will need:

    • to be an active member.
    • to have an available credit in your account ready to use.
    • an audio file of your original song (mp3) and lyric sheet.
  • How many members get to pitch per session?

Spots are limited for Online Pitch sessions -- we take the first 50 Members that register, so be ready to submit your form quickly to be included!

  • How do I know if there are any spots available?

When registration opens for an Online Pitch Session, you will be able to see a countdown of available spots. When we receive the maximum number of submissions, the webform becomes inactive. You will see the message "THIS EVENT IS FULL."

  • How many Online Pitch Sessions are offered?

We offer two online pitch sessions per month. Members can only participate in ONE pitch -- so choose your publisher wisely!

  • What are the steps to submit a song for Online Pitch?

The instructions to submit your song for an Online Pitch Session are as follows:

    1. Log into your NSAI account. You must be logged in to view the submission form once it goes live.
    2. Follow this path to get onto the correct page: Member Services > Online Pitch.
    3. Under the section Pitch Events: Open and Upcoming, click on the Online Pitch Session of your choice (if we have two Online PItch sessions opening at the same time, you may only register for ONE).
    4. Pay careful attention to the Registration Date & Time. This will be precisely when the submission form becomes available.
    5. At the listed Registration Date & Time, the Register button will become active. Click on this button to be taken to the submission form.
    6. Complete the form, and upload the requested materials (audio file and lyric sheet).
    7. Once you complete your song submission, you're done! There's nothing else you need to do - let us take it from there!
  • What happens after I submit my song for Pitch?

Here's what happens after registration for Online Pitch closes:

    1. The NSAI team compiles all the song submissions into a private playlist for the guest/Publisher.
    2. A member of our team and the Publisher will coordinate a day/time to meet via Zoom and listen through the playlist together* (first verse/first chorus of each song - 50 songs MAX).
    3. The NSAI staff member will facilitate the session, while the Publisher will either "pass" or "take a copy" of the songs submitted.
    4. The Zoom session is recorded, and a link to view the video will be distributed to all of the participants at a later date (usually before the end of the month).
    5. After the session, the playlist gets updated to only include the songs "taken". Only the publisher will have access to this playlist moving forward to revisit those songs.

*REMINDER: This event is not a live or attended event. Once you submit a song, you've done your part! You will not receive a link to join the Zoom session - you will have to wait until the video link gets distributed to find out the results of the pitch.

  • A publisher took a copy of my song... Now what?

If a publisher takes a copy of your song in an Online Pitch Session, congrats! That means that your song caught their attention upon first listen and they would like to hear it again and/or hear it all the way through. There are no promises or guarantees that the publisher will reach out to you. The publisher has access to the playlist of songs taken, and will communicate with our team if they would like to hear more songs or make connections with select writers.

  • My song was passed on... what do I do now?

If your song did not get taken by the publisher, please do not be discouraged! Keep in mind that music is entirely subjective and the results of a pitch session has no bearing on your talent or potential as a songwriter.  We encourage you to continue doing your thing, write even better songs, and try again for the next one!

  • Why is Online Pitch valuable?

Our Online Pitch service is valuable in many ways, regardless of the outcome (whether or not your song was "taken":

    • This is your chance to introduce yourself and your songwriting style to a legitimate music publisher. First impressions are important!
    • Not only is this a great networking opportunity, it is also a learning experience. Based on the songs taken in each session, it could teach you more about what music publishers are looking for, and how you can better prepare yourself for the next one. As you watch the session on your own time, ask yourself these questions: Did all of the songs taken have a common theme or sound? Did this publisher prefer worktapes over demos? Ballads over uptempo songs, or vice-versa? What was it about the songwriting that stood out to you? Pay close attention to your peers because there is so much you can learn by listening to 50 songs in one sitting!
    • This is one of the best ways to check out what your fellow NSAI members are writing! Take the time to watch the entire video and listen to each song, because you might just find a few new cowriters out of the bunch! Take note of the songs that stood out to you, and take the initiative to find those members in the Member Directory, and send direct messages to connect!
