This time of year we naturally start taking stock of our lives and reviewing the year gone by. It's also a time when we start spending alot more time indoors. What a perfect time to pick up the guitar or sit down at the piano. Do you have a gratitude list? Maybe there's a way that you can put those items in an organized form and write a song. Some people may just write a brief poem.
I've found that sometimes the best songs that I've written have come together at different times in my life. It's possible that you could put two different poems together. One could be the verse and another part could be the chorus. Figuring out your unique perspective in life is the important thing. What NEW thoughts are you bringing to the table as a songwriter?
Here's a challenge. I have a man in my church that gives away little wooden trinkets called "Grati-woods". It's a little charm in the shape of a cone with five grooves in it. The challenge is to think of five things each morning that you're grateful for. Try it out, see if you can take the Grati-wood challenge for a week and see what 35 different things that you're thankful for. It just might turn into a song!
