Paul and Hannah McClure share how they joined corporate worship team Bethel Music and songwriting advice they learned along the way. Hear more about their songwriting process and what practices they apply to their craft as a duo and contributors to Bethel Music. ABOUT THE MCCLURES Bethel Music songwriters and worship leaders Paul and Hannah McClure have been writing songs together since they met as teens growing up in North Carolina. Today, they’ve been featured on every major Bethel Music album release since 2010 with songs like “Jesus, We Love You,” “You Are My One Thing” and “Faithful to the End.” Now the duo is set to release their first solo album on the Bethel Music label at the end of August. You could say Paul and Hannah have arrived. But to them, if they have arrived anywhere, it’s simply back home. A project three years in the making, The Way Home embodies an important journey in identity for Paul and Hannah, one that ultimately led the couple to know themselves better as artists and as Christ followers. “I’m realizing that songwriting and life are the same thing as far as they are a process and a journey,” says Paul. “[These songs] are a snapshot of who we are, where we’ve been and where we come from.” The collection is an homage to the couple’s Southern roots, with Americana and folk-inspired tracks—many of which were written during songwriting sessions in Nashville and then recorded there at the iconic Layman Drug Company studios. The album also acknowledges the couple’s roots in the Church. Hannah and Paul were both pastor’s kids and have a mutual affection for the local church, which they’ve kept at the center of their songwriting and cite as the reason for their original interest in Bethel as a church and worship movement.
