In light of this month’s sync theme, we’re featuring two pieces of advice for sync writers by multi-award winning songwriter/producer/publisher, Jeff Cohen. Jeff's songs have appeared in over 100 placements in tv/film including: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Stuart Little 2, Aquamarine, Grandma's Boy, The Exes (theme), Jack and Jill (theme), I Married A Princess (theme), Dawson's Creek, Party of Five, One Tree Hill, Ed, Reba, Smallville, The Simpsons, Saturday Night Live. He is also founder and songwriter of the critically acclaimed band Pancho's Lament. In a previous life Jeff was a music executive at BMI working with such talent as Jeff Buckley, Kara DioGuardi, Lisa Loeb, Joan Osborne, Ani DiFranco, Spin Doctors, Hugh Prestwood and many more.

  • “Make sure you register your meta data correctly. The Supervisors get so many songs sent to them. Make it easier for them and provide all the information they will need.”

  • “Don’t get discouraged. The first time you send songs to a Supervisor nothing may come of that exchange. Doesn’t necessarily mean your song isn’t good but most likely doesn’t fit what they are looking for. Important thing is to establish a reputation for sending quality songs and being professional to work with. I have known Supervisors for a few years before getting my first placement with them. Write great songs, stay in touch and don’t waste their time.”
